RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL OF NEW JERSEY SPONSORS CONFERENCE ON MAY 13, 1999 PROMOTING R&D AS AN INVESTMENT FOR BUSINESS GROWTH
Denville, N.J., February 5, 1999 The Research and Development (R&D) Council of
New Jersey, in continuing to spread the word that R&D is an investment for New Jersey and
its corporations, will host a conference on May 13, 1999. The conference entitled,
"R&D as an Investment for Business Growth: Success Stories for Now & The Future," will be held from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at Lucent Technologies in
Holmdel, N.J.
The morning session will cover such topics as "Strategic Management of R&D as a Business
Investment" and "Showing How R&D Provides Value." Speakers include Mr. Dave Lando,
Engineering and Environmental Technologies Vice President at Lucent Technologies and Mr.
Emmett Murtha, former Director of Business Development for IBM.
Dr. Arun Netravali, Executive Vice President of Bell Labs, is the scheduled keynote speaker
for the afternoon session. The afternoon program will be split into two parallel sessions
covering topics of interest to small and large companies. The small company session will
feature talks on obtaining venture capital dollars and seed capital loans while the large
company session will discuss monitoring government grants and capitalizing on R&D's
investment and spinning-off technology.
The afternoon session will also feature a panel on the importance of government investment in
public/private partnerships for R&D with a focus on the Edison Partnership with Prosperity
New Jersey. The conference concludes with Steve Schaible, Managing Director of J.P. Morgan
and Paul Smith, Vice President of J.P. Morgan who will speak about how technology adds value
to companies.
Cost of the seminar is $125 for member companies, $150 for non-member companies and $100 for
academia/students. A continental breakfast and lunch are included in the price. Seats are
