RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL OF NEW JERSEY AWARDS NINE ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIPS TO LOCAL STUDENTS
Denville, N.J., October 3, 2000 The Research and
Development (R&D) Council of New Jersey awarded nine $1,500 scholarships to New Jersey
students entering study fields in engineering, science, technology and mathematics. Council
members provided the funds for the annual scholarships. To qualify, students must be enrolled in
a two-year New Jersey state school and have one year left to complete.
While the Council traditionally awards three scholarships per year, Council members contributed
to nine separate scholarships in 2000. This years recipients are Donald H. Parks of Milville
studying Engineering Science at Cumberland County College, Emmanuel Ramos of Paterson studying
Electronic Engineering at Passaic County Community College, Lloyd Howell of Roselle studying
Electrical Engineering at Union County College, and Jasmin Zegarra of Jersey City studying
Computer Information Technology at Hudson County Community College. At the County College of
Morris winners included, John M. Centrella of Wharton and Adam Carvaglia of Morristown, both
studying Mechanical Engineering. Recipients at Essex County College included Jose M. Tamayo of
Belleville who studies Mechanical Engineering and Dritan Bitincka of Newark and Lilian Mwangangi
of Teaneck who study Electronic Engineering.
This year's scholarships were made possible by National Starch and Company, Honeywell, Engelhard
Corporation, Wyeth-Ayerst Research, Sabinsa Corporation, Reckitt Benckiser, Telecordia Technologies
Inc. and Johnson & Johnson, General Magnaplate Corporations and Novartis Pharmaceutical
Corporation, and Pfizer, Inc.
The Research and Development Council is a non-profit organization that works to cultivate an
environment that supports the advancement of research and development activity throughout New
Jersey.
The R&D Council has about 90 member companies.
